Mr. Fu is managing director of China Daily's China Watch Institute, a communication-led think tank powered by the newspaper media group. He has for some years been a columnist mainly addressing China-Europe issues.

Fu helped China Daily to set up the Institute since late 2017 to forge a global network connecting China-focused thinkers and stimulating thought exchanges, after completing an eight-year posting in Brussels and London. Under Fu's leadership the team published four reports on G20, Sino-African relations and Sino-EU partners and two books: The Sleeping Giant Awakes, a book on  the 40th anniversary of China's opening up and reform and Common Prosperity: Global Views on the Belt and Road Initiative.

During his efforts over two decades to achieve journalistic excellence, Fu covered domestic stories in China on topics including the economy, agriculture, rural issues, migrants, urbanisation, climate change and energy, poverty and human development, science and technology before his eight years of work in Europe. In 2009/10, Fu, as a political journalist, reported on diplomatic tours by the Chinese president and premier. Fu's years in Europe first saw him working as China Daily's chief EU correspondent. In 2016 he became the deputy chief of its European bureau.

Fu covered the Copenhagen climate talks in 2009. That year, he led a team translating Kick the Habit: A UN Guide to Climate Neutrality (UN Environment Programme), into Chinese as an essential knowledge read in China. He helped to edit several English-Chinese books, including Evolution of Green China, a collection of China Daily environment and climate change stories, in 2008-09. In 2011 he published his own bilingual collection on environment and climate change, Jumping to Reach Clear Sky: Frontline Narratives of China's Green Dream. In 2010 Fu co-edited Unshakeable Sichuan, a collection of China Daily stories of the catastrophic 2008 Wenchuan earthquake. In 2017 his column collection Testing Time: A Chinese Journalist's Perspectives on Beijing-Brussels Relations was published.

In 2015 Fu won the first prize in China News' Award, the highest award for journalistic excellence in China, for his article "Silk Road initiatives fit into EU recovery goals." Because of his outstanding career experience, he was shortlisted for the Changjiang and Taofen Journalism Award in 2016, the highest national honour for Chinese newsroom professionals. He was also awarded the “May Day Labor Medal” for his remarkable performance in the Wenchuan earthquake coverage in Sichuan province in 2008. Selected to deepen Sino-French exchanges, Fu is a member of the 2018-19 Sino-French Young Leader Program.

An active volunteer for years, Fu has devoted himself to working with an education charity.
